Day 3-Moreno Valley to Indio, CA. 90 miles and 2,111 ft elevation gain

Another beautiful blue sky day, starting out a chilly 45 degrees but ended @ 88 degrees! We pulled out around 7:30am and, after biking out of the valley found ourselves in a 5 mile climb with the San Gorgonio mountain to our north and Mt San Jacinto to our south- just stunning, and snow-capped.

We then had the unique opportunity to be bike-escorted through the Morongo Reservation where no cars are allowed (and no photos). We biked through hundreds of wind turbines on our way into Palm Springs, where we stopped for gelato. Biked through Palm Desert and so many golf courses!

it was a rough day on bike tires. I think I saw or heard of at least 10 flats. While so many of the roads out here have great bike lanes, we also rode on a few long stretches of roads with lots of debris-very frustrating. Knock on wood, I haven’t experienced a flat yet.

Tomorrow we ride across the deser!
